A tornado has struck near the Czech Republic's border with Austria causing widespread damage and a trail of devastation. Footage from the Breclav region shortly after the twister struck shows roofs torn off buildings and cars wrecked by the violent torrent. Austrian Red Cross report that ambulances have been sent to help survivors amid reports of five fatalities and 150 people left injured.

       Red Cross spokesman Andreas Zenker said: "We have sent twelve ambulances and an emergency doctor vehicle to the area.

       "Other units from the Weinviertel have already been alerted."

       Meanwhile, the Czech Army is believed to have been deployed to the disaster zone.

       In total, at least 30,000 homes have been left without power after a tornado touched down according to Czech new sources.

       Czech President Milo？ Zeman has thanked the emergency services for the response to the incident, reports local news outlet CT24zive.

       Meanwhile church steeple and school damaged by the tornado in the village of Hrusky near the Austrian border.

       Footage of the devastation shows entire streets of houses damaged.

       The force of the winds shattered windows and brought down trees blocking roads.

       The mayor of Hrusky, which is home to around 1,500 people, is reported to have declared half the village was "destroyed."

       Violent tornadoes are a rare occurrence in the Czech Republic with the last recorded in 2018.

       Meteorologists have reportedly declared this latest twister to be level three or four on the Fujita scale with damage rated at from "significant" to "severe."

       Meteorologist Michal ？ák described the extreme weather event as "probably the strongest tornado in recent [Czech]history."

       Rescue teams from Austrian and Slovakia have been made available to Czech authorities overseeing rescue operations according to DW News.

       RT reports local emergency services facing widespread: “damaged houses, fire, traffic accidents, trees on cars and homes.”

       Meanwhile, the Russian news outlet also reports that Czech police urging citizens to “clear the way” for "hundreds" of first responders heading to the area.
