KUALA LUMPUR: The government is still implementing the work from home policy, with 20% of civil servants currently working under this arrangement, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said certain tasks, such as research, case study and drafting documents could be done from home.
“We allowed the work-from-home arrangement during the movement control order period when a large number of government offices were closed and there were 60% working from office and 40% working from home. Currently, we still have 20% working from home.
“However, critical sectors and departments such as healthcare services must be done at the workplace.
“The conclusion is that we are still working from home but only in certain cases and the percentage is only 20%,” Ismail Sabri told the Dewan Rakyat during the oral question and answer time in Parliament on Tuesday (March 1).
Earlier, Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (BN-Pasir Salak) asked about the work from home policy for civil servants, saying that it would be very helpful – especially for working mothers owing to the shortage of maids currently.
He also said working from home could save millions of man hours in terms of hours wasted by employees stuck in traffic jams.
Fong Kui Lun (PH-Bukit Bintang) also asked who is responsible for improving the services of government offices, as calls often went unanswered and the online system was unsatisfactory.
Ismail Sabri said he would take the matter seriously and ensure that it is resolved as it is in the best interests of the rakyat.
