Covid-19: Sabah now allows walk-ins for vaccination

KOTA KINABALU: In a move to hasten the immunisation programme in Sabah, the state government is now allowing walk-ins at all Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPVs) across Sabah.

State Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic) said this is open for citizens and non-citizens who are qualified for vaccination, but who have yet to get their jabs.

"The state government today (Aug 11) has decided to allow Malaysians and non-Malaysians who are qualified for the vaccine, to come forward as walk-ins at all PPVs in all districts in Sabah," he said in the daily statement to update Covid-19 developments here.

He added that while vaccines are available to all, priority will be to citizens and for those who have registered but have not gotten their appointments.

Sabah has previously projected to reach 60% vaccination rate of the targeted population and herd immunity by year-end, but the state government in an earlier statement on Wednesday has revised the herd immunity target to be reached by October.

The state has been compared with neighbouring Sarawak's faster vaccination rate, despite intensified immunisation efforts and increased capacity of daily jabs here.

At present, Sabah's daily jab is averaging between 46,000 and 48,000 per day.
