PETALING JAYA: Those over the age of 60 who have not received their Covid-19 vaccinations can soon walk into private clinics or private hospitals to receive their shots.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the initiative would be introduced in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur first before it is expanded to other states.

"Those aged 60 and above who haven't been vaccinated can just walk in to these general practitioners in order to be vaccinated in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

"The reason we decided this was because we have noticed there were still a number of individuals over the age of 60 who have yet to be vaccinated," he said adding that they also decided that vaccination centres for the industrial sector could also operate 24 hours a day in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Seremban.

"We have decided that 2,229 private clinics or general practitioners in Selangor, as well as 1,254 in Kuala Lumpur can join us to give vaccinations.

"Currently, there are about 700 general practitioners in both Selangor and Kuala Lumpur involved," he said in a joint press conference on Thursday (July 15).

He said they estimated that over 300,000 vaccinations can be given daily once everyone is involved.

He said these initiatives were to ensure that the vaccination process could be wrapped up in the greater Klang Valley area.

Meanwhile, Dr Adham said that on Wednesday (July 14), 434,828 vaccination doses were administered with 279,938 first dose recipients and 154,890 second dose recipients.

"12,647,558 of the population have now been vaccinated with 26.5% of the population receiving their first dose, while 12.3% of the population have already received their second dose," he said.
