KOTA KINABALU: Hundreds of people turned up at the Taman Harmoni vaccination centre (PPV) in Sandakan for the walk-in inoculation amid concerns over non-compliance of Covid-19 standard operating procedure.
Worries of new clusters emerging were raised by local leaders who appealed to both the people and authorities to ensure the SOP was strictly observed.
Some 300 doses of vaccination were administered within three hours after the PPV opened at 8am for residents of Taman Sri Masjid and the Taman Harmoni low-cost apartments.
Elopura assemblyman Calvin Chong, who welcomed the initiative to allow for walk-ins at the PPV, hoped the authorities would closely monitor and ensure crowds observe the SOP.
“Some 300 people have been vaccinated on the first day of the two-day programme,” he said, adding that it benefited the elderly and those without smartphones who were unable to register for the vaccines.
Meanwhile, Sandakan district police chief Asst Comm Mohd Azhar Hamin said policemen were present at the Taman Harmoni PPV to control the crowd.
Policemen were there until the programme was completed, he said.
