JOHOR BARU: It is getting hectic at the Johor Persada vaccination centre (PPV) with walk-ins for teenagers being made available there.

Its coordinator Mohd Amin Kadiman said the centre started vaccinating those aged between 16 and 17 yesterday, adding that from Sunday, those aged between 12 and 15 could walk in, too.

He said the walk-in inoculation for youths was for those in universities and colleges, and those not registered in any school. It will continue until Oct 5.

Amin said for those in schools, the state Education Department will arrange the vaccination.

He said the walk-in inoculation started at 9.30am yesterday and by 6pm, 603 students had been vaccinated.

He said the Persada PPV is the only centre conducting walk-in vaccinations for youths in the district.

On Tuesday, Johor health and environment committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said that 304,695 teenagers aged between 12 and 17 registered for vaccination on the MySejahtera app.

In KUALA LUMPUR, the vaccination process was smooth at the Axiata Arena Bukit Jalil despite a big crowd of teenagers turning up with their parents to get their jabs.

Brothers Teshvin Devan Kumara Devan, 17, and Parthiv Devan Kumara Devan, 16, said they were excited to receive their first doses and were looking forward to returning to school.

“I missed my school so much!” said Theshvin Devan, who studies at SMK Taman Maluri.

He added that he and his brother, who is from Sekolah Aminuddin Baki, were informed by their schools that their appointments would appear on MySejahtera.

“We were in and out within an hour,” he said.
