PETALING JAYA: The Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant resumed operations once again at 12.30pm it was shut down about four hours earlier due to odour pollution at Sungai Rinching stream that is a river tributary of Sungai Semenyih.

Media Selangor tweeted that the plant resume operations following a zero threshold odour number reading taken at the plant.

"The recovery of water supply to the affected areas will resume in stages.

“The Selangor Water Management Authority and Air Selangor took around four hours to resolve the disruption,” the state media arm said.

Earlier, odour pollution and foam in the water that was detected at the river near Kampung Sungai Rinching Tengah caused operations at the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant had to cease.

Selangor tourism and environment committee chairman Hee Loy Sian said an initial investigation from Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) found foam at 8.45am on Dec 16 pointed to a flow of water from a drain outlet near a factory premises close to Kesuma Beranang Phase 7.

The shut down of the plant was expected to cause water disruption to around 463 areas in Selangor and Putrajaya.
