PAPAR: Salinity levels of the intake point for the Kampung Limbahau Emergency Water Supply Scheme (EWSS) have dropped to acceptable levels and water treatment plants will resume operations soon.

Papar MP Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said chloride readings at the Limbahau EWSS intake point was below 120 mg/l on Sunday (April 7) morning following prolonged heavy rain the day before.

"Let's pray for rain today so chloride levels continue to drop and the water treatment plant can resume normal operations," he said in a statement on Sunday.

Tanks at the water treatment plant are being filled before the water treatment process resumes.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister said the plant stopped operations on Feb 17 after the raw water source at the intake point showed a high salinity level.

It was reported that over 50,000 residents were affected when the Limbahau EWSS and Jetama water treatment plant stopped operations.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor had approved a RM20mil allocation to construct an alternative intake point at Kampung Kabang to address the problem.
