There are more water problems in south suburban Dixmoor after a pipe burst Monday morning, according to a news release from village officials.

“There is virtually no water pressure” in Dixmoor due to the breakage, official said.

The pipe burst on 144th Street and Ashland Avenue in nearby Harvey, a city that is the sole water provider to Dixmoor, according to Dixmoor Village President Fitzgerald Roberts. On Saturday, a water main broke in Harvey, but was fixed, officials said.

The village said that water pressure levels in Harvey have to be around 35 to 36 pounds of pressure to supply water to Dixmoor but they have been in single digits due to pipe and water main incidents.

Water issues have been an ongoing problem for Dixmoor, which is about 18 miles south of downtown Chicago.

A state of emergency was declared Thursday. This most recent burst pipe follows a water main break on Saturday that left Dixmoor residents without water, according to the village.

Although the breakage was repaired, village officials said at the time that water pressure wouldn’t be at normal levels until the turbines are fixed.

The village is providing residents with bottled water as it addresses the situation.
