Covid-19: Selangor records weekly average of 6,626 cases - highest out of all states

       PUTRAJAYA: Selangor’s weekly average (as of noon Aug 20) of 6,626 Covid-19 cases is the highest out of all states, according to the Health Ministry.

       The ministry also revealed that Sabah has the second-highest weekly average at 2,140 cases, followed by Kedah (1,824 cases) and Kuala Lumpur (1,610).

       Other states' weekly average are as follows: Johor (1,440), Penang (1,419), Sarawak (1,321), Kelantan (1,256), Perak (1,089), Pahang (709), Melaka (689), Negri Sembilan (571) and Terengganu (558).

       The states and federal territories with the lowest weekly average are Labuan (three cases), Putrajaya (32) and Perlis (42).

       In terms of incidence rate, Selangor also has the country’s highest with a weekly average of 98.66 cases per 100,000 population.

       This is followed by Kuala Lumpur (84.28 cases per 100,000 population), Kedah (80.44), Penang (78.55) and Melaka (70.77).

       The national weekly average is 62.31 cases per 100,000 population.

       On Friday, Malaysia reported a record high of 23,564 Covid-19 cases.

       Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said 98.2% of the infections are either mild or asymptomatic cases.

       There are 431 cases, or 1.8% of Friday’s total, which falls under Categories 3, 4 and 5.

       The categories require hospitalisation, with the more severe ones needing ventilator support.

       Dr Noor Hisham said 82.2% of Friday’s cases involve individuals who are either unvaccinated or have not completed their vaccination dosage.

       Currently, the country has 257,417 active Covid-19 cases.

       This includes 1,062 cases in intensive care units (ICU) and 518 on ventilator support.

       Another 21,448 patients were discharged from treatment, while 233 died due to the virus.

       Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll now stands at 13,713.

       Of the 233 deaths, 34 were foreign nationals.

       There were also 60 death cases declared as brought-in-dead (BID).

       Meanwhile, the ministry has also detected 38 new Covid-19 clusters nationwide.

       This includes 22 workplace outbreaks, which has 826 confirmed cases.

       Another 14 clusters are community-based outbreaks, which have 518 confirmed cases.

       There are also two clusters, which are linked to the education sector, with 39 confirmed cases so far.

       The ministry is currently monitoring 1,422 active clusters across the country.
