PETALING JAYA: After having his loyalty towards Umno questioned, Tan Sri Annuar Musa has clapped back at party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, as the Ketereh MP maintained that his stance has never changed and that is standing up for what’s right.
“I was never a fanatic to any individual or group. I support what’s right and if it’s wrong, I’ll say it’s wrong – call spade a spade,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
Annuar said his political stance was cemented on moderation and unity, adding that in politics, it was easy to gain popularity by stoking certain sentiments.
“However, playing with sentiments will not bring us anywhere. In fact, we might burn ourselves.
“Therefore, we should not be arrogant and be full of ourselves,” added the former Umno secretary-general.
In January last year, Annuar was sacked as the Umno secretary general. His sacking is believed to be due to his continued support for Umno to remain in the Perikatan Nasional government.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Ahmad Zahid accused Annuar of not toeing the party’s line on many occasions.
“When enemies outside the party are trying to deceive the opposing party using various tactics and strategies, we as party men, from ordinary members to party division leaders, need to be more prudent.
“We should not act like the enemies in the same party and dance to the Opposition’s beat.
“Once or twice, statements against the party’s policy can be considered a coincidence. But, several times? That is no longer a coincidence,” said the Bagan Datuk MP.
He said the recent leak of an intelligence report allegedly authored by PAS was a serious matter to Umno.Annuar recently said the leak of the report was not unusual, as it was merely notes by PAS leaders in establishing facts and views of other political party leaders.
He said if the documents were proven to be true and the content could be considered as a plan to take down Umno, it was not unusual because it was common for every party contesting in an election to bring down opponents.
