PETALING JAYA: The live debate between Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and Lim Guan Eng on Tuesday has led to Malaysians wanting more of such open discussions among politicians.“The rakyat must be taught to think critically by cultivating a healthy political practice like this,” tweeted naimbinzaini.
He said he would love to see such debates becoming a new norm in the country’s political landscape.
On Tuesday, Dr Wee, who is Transport Minister, debated with Lim, the DAP secretary-general, on the cabotage policy.
It was shown live on TV and social media.
Another Twitter user, WanAgyl, said he looks forward to such debates in the future.
“I’m so excited (and want) to see more debates like this in the future, especially during GE15 where all political parties can debate their manifesto,” he tweeted.
Hackerzafifi also believes that more of such debates should be held.
“I was too excited having fun listening to this debate between Wee Ka Siong and Lim Guan Eng till I didn’t realise it had been one hour already. Solid point.
“People thought dia checkmate dia, dia checkmate dia, well they both aced the debate. We need more of this,” he tweeted.
AimanDrummer said the debate between Dr Wee and Lim had been one of the more interesting things on the country’s political scene of late.
Dr Wee also said he was happy to have taken part in the debate.
“It shows that we can talk about contentious issues rationally, calmly and bring out the points that matter to public interest without resorting to unnecessary personal attacks,” he said.
“Though we may disagree on many things, I also want to applaud my opponent YB Lim for taking part.”
