A SENIOR citizen from Kluang drew ire from volunteers who brought food to his house after they found out he had hung a white flag outside his house as a bet from his friend, China Press reported.
According to Huang Yu Ying, chairman of a non-governmental organisation in Kluang, a group of volunteers went to the 60-year-old man’s house after a local resident sent them pictures of a white flag outside the house.
Huang, who represents the Kluang chapter of Malaysia Ai Xin, said the messages claimed everyone in that house had lost their jobs and were in dire need of food.
When the volunteers arrived, the old man informed them that he did not need food and he had hung the flag because one of his friends bet him that he would receive food from the public and a political party.Curious to know the answer, the man decided to hang a white flag.
He apologised to the volunteers and said he had done it for fun.
The man admitted that the messages claiming everyone in his house was unemployed was false and had been sent by his friends.
He took down the white flag after being advised by the volunteers.
Huang urged people not to play pranks on volunteers.
