According to a statement, the trooper had stopped a car just after 6 a.m. and was outside his patrol SUV on the left shoulder of I-270 south near West Montgomery Avenue in Rockville. His emergency lights were on, and he was standing “between the jersey wall and the driver’s side” of the car when another vehicle “swerved and struck” him and the vehicles.
The drivers of the other vehicles were not hurt. The crash remains under investigation. Officials said chargers are pending against the driver that struck the trooper.
