PETALING JAYA: The diversity of races, religions and cultures is a source of strength for the Malaysian Family, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

In his Thaipusam Day wishes, the Prime Minister said Malaysia was a harmonious and multi-cultural country where its people had a strong sense of respect for one another.

“Our diversity is something we celebrate as a source of strength for the Malaysian Family.

“Tomorrow, the Hindu community will celebrate Thaipusam. I would like to wish a Happy Thaipusam to all Hindus in Malaysia,” said Ismail Sabri in a statement Monday (Jan 17).

He also reminded those celebrating not to forget to Covid-19 preventive measures during the festivities.

“Celebrate this meaningful festival with your loved ones. At the same time, apply new norms for the safety of yourselves, your family and society,” said Ismail Sabri.

Also conveying Thaipusam Day wishes was Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

“While we are all tested in many ways by the difficulties brought on by Covid-19 and the new norm as well as the recent floods, I hope that this special day would bring much joy, blessings and new beginnings to you and your family.

“On this occasion of faith, repentance and endurance, I pray that you will find the strength to conquer obstacles you face – just as Lord Murugan had done as the conqueror of evil.

“I pray that this Thaipusam will be meaningful in 1,001 ways for you and your loved ones, with many blessings and good health,” said the MCA president in his Thaipusam Day wishes.

National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Sadique said Thaipusam was a day where Malaysians celebrated its diversity and harmony.

“Thaipusam is a meaningful day where Hindu devotees fulfil vows, seek forgiveness, repentance and express gratitude.

“While we are faced with the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and floods, the strength of our unity and harmony has given us the strength to overcome various obstacles together.

“Let us embrace and appreciate the good relations we have in our diverse society on this Thaipusam Day,” said Halimah in a statement.
