PETALING JAYA: Most of the Umno supreme council members are supportive of withdrawing backing for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the Prime Minister, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (pic) claims.

He said that 50 out of the 56 supreme council members had signed a form, agreeing to the matter, prior to the Umno supreme council meeting last Wednesday.

Ahmad Maslan explained that Umno executive secretary Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan was left out from giving his views due to his administrative role, making it only 55 supreme council members.

Out of 55, two did not agree to withdraw, two abstained and one did not meet the party president to sign the form.

“The difference of opinion was only on when we need to withdraw the support,” he said yesterday.

Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had announced that the party would withdraw its support for Muhyiddin as Prime Minister after a virtual supreme council meeting on Wednesday night.

Ahmad Maslan said that during the meeting, only a small number of supreme council members had agreed to delay the withdrawal of support for Muhyiddin.

“Some suggested we should do it when Parliament reconvenes, or some other time,” he added.
