Vicar sacked after admitting taking Class A drugs and banned from working for 3 years following police probe

       A VICAR has been sacked after he admitted taking Class A drugs.

       The Rev Ian Maslin, 56, was also banned from working in the Church of England for three years after a disciplinary hearing.

       He has been removed from his post as the parish priest for the villages of Dunsfold and Hascombe, in Surrey, where police also investigated the issue but brought no charges.

       A clergy discipline commission found Mr Maslin’s conduct was “unbecoming a Clerk in Holy Orders regarding the use of class A drugs”.

       It is not know what the narcotics were.

       A source in the village told The Sun: “You don’t expect your vicar to be involved with Class A drugs.

       In June, the Bishop of Dorking, the Rt Rev Jo Bailey Wells, wrote to the congregation, saying Mr Maslin had been placed on an extended summer break.

       She said: “This period of leave is for personal reasons related to his wellbeing.

       "I do not think it appropriate to say more and would ask you to resist speculation.”

       Mr Maslin was removed from his post in December.

       He took over the parish in February 2020 and was chaplain to then Waverley borough council mayor Mary Foryszewski.

       Guildford diocese said: “Ian has accepted the complaint and agreed to the penalties.”
