PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 34 new Covid-19 clusters in the last 24 hours, bringing the active clusters to 1,440 nationwide.

       Among them, 17 were workplace-related, 14 in the community, two involving high-risk groups and one involving religious groups.

       In his daily Covid-19 statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Malaysia's daily Covid-19 cases saw a slight dip from the 20,000 mark with 19,198 new infections reported on Sunday (Sept 12).

       The country’s cumulative cases also neared the two-million mark with 1,979,698 infections reported since the pandemic began last year.

       Sarawak continued to record the highest number of cases at 5,291, followed by Selangor (2,347) and Johor (2,110).

       The figures for other states and territories are Sabah (1,717), Kelantan (1,435), Penang (1,309), Kedah (1,256), Perak (1,118), Terengganu (930), Pahang (584), Kuala Lumpur (376), Melaka (340), Negri Sembilan (283), Perlis (67), Putrajaya (32) and Labuan (three).

       Dr Noor Hisham said 98.7% or 19,198 of the cases were mild and asymptomatic infections.

       “Another 1.3% or 253 cases are those in Categories 3, 4 and 5,” he said.

       A total of 1,298 cases are admitted at the intensive care unit (ICU), where 960 were confirmed Covid-19 cases while 338 were suspected and under probe.

       Among the ICU cases, 744 are on ventilator support.

       While the national infectivity rate (R0) is at 0.99, eight states recorded a higher R0 of 1.0 and above.

       They are Sarawak (1.15), Terengganu (1.09), Johor and Perak (1.05), Pahang (1.04), Penang (1.03), Perlis and Kelantan (1.02).

       Melaka, Kedah, Sabah, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur recorded R0 below 1.0, while Labuan’s infectivity rate was zero.

       Dr Noor Hisham said Malaysia also recorded 20,980 recovered cases in the last 24 hours, slightly higher than new cases.
