A BOSS has been slammed for firing an employee for evacuating an office building during a wildfire.

The worker, who lives in California, insisted that they were only following protocol and said they feared of becoming homeless.

An employee claimed that they were sacked after evacuating an office building during a wildfire

The employee from the USA issued a lengthy statement on Reddit a year ago suggesting that they had been targeted by their boss for a month.

They wrote: “Basically, there’s a lot going on, and I'm doing my best.”

“However, every single day, my boss jumps down my neck about small 'mistakes.'

“Every day since I've started, there are emails from before I get to the office (including three that day) grilling me on mistakes to the point where my boss is clearly enjoying it.”

The employee then went onto list several alleged 'mistakes' – including their decision to evacuate the building during the firestorm after receiving "a direct order to do so.”

They also claimed that their boss had taken issue with working from home (despite a pandemic mandate), not receiving training during the wildfire and accusations of laziness when IT glitches occurred.

Seeking respite, the desperate employee then suggested that she had reached out to HR for help, but they proved powerless in clamping down on her “finicky” boss .

They added: “HR wants me to stay and offered to look into this for me.

“But I'm getting really stressed out with the idea of being homeless if I lose this job, and that’s making it hard to want to improve.”

The employee later revealed in the comments that she had been sacked from her job – much to the dismay of Reddit users in the comments who described the worker’s experience as “sad.”

The alleged evacuation incident came at the end of a year that had seen California’s most severe wildfire season in modern history.

In August 2020, California even declared a state of emergency after the extreme temperatures caused more fires to break out, many sparked by lightning strikes.

The state also had to deal with mass power outages as residents desperately turned up their air conditioners.

By the end of the year 9,917 fires had burned 4,397,809 acres - more than 4 percent of the state's roughly 100 million acres of land.
