PASIR GUDANG: The police are investigating a viral video of two men wearing pink wristbands buying food from a restaurant here.
In the video, the two men, who are believed to be defying quarantine orders, are seen buying food from the restaurant in Taman Sierra Perdana, Masai.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Sohaimi Ishak said the one-minute, 32-second video came to the attention of the police on Friday (Aug 20).
"We have identified the two individuals, aged 23 and 46. They are close contacts of a Covid-19 patient and were supposed to be in home quarantine from Aug 14 to Aug 24
"Based on initial investigations, we found that the incident took place at about 8pm on Wednesday (Aug 18)," he said in a statement here on Saturday (Aug 21).
"The case is being investigated under Section 22(b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and offenders could be issued a RM5,000 compound notice if found guilty.
"The case is also being investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code where if found guilty, they could be jailed for a maximum of six months or receive fines or both," he said.
He added that the police would summon the two men for further investigation after they complete their quarantine.
