PETALING JAYA: The headless body of a Malaysian woman has been found by British police in the woodlands of a seaside town 350km from her London home - more than two weeks after she was reported missing.

Mee Kuen Chong, 67, was reported missing on Friday (June 11) from Wembley in London, and detectives say her death is being treated as "unexplained", reported the British press, quoting the Devon and Cornwall police.

Chong's body, which a police source has confirmed was headless, was found in a woodland Salcombe in Devon on Sunday, reported UK's tabloid newspaper Daily Mirror.

The report said that investigators are now trying to establish her movements before she died.

Det Supt Ben Deer of the Devon and Cornwall Police told Daily Mirror: "The investigation is ongoing at the scene. It's being treated as unexplained at this time and we remain open minded."

He said police do not know when she died, her movements between June 10 and when she was found on June 27 - or the circumstances leading up to her death.

"We are looking to understand her movements between June 10 and June 27 when she was found.

"We would appeal for witnesses and we would look for anyone to come forward with information quoting crime reference number 700 on June 27th by ringing 101 or contacting us on Crimestoppers," Deer said in the news report.

The incident has so far been described as an 'unexplained death' and a police source has confirmed that the body was found without a head.

A spokesman said: "Enquiries remain ongoing into an unexplained death after a body was found in a wooded area near Bennett Road, Salcombe, on Sunday (June 27).

On Sunday afternoon flash flooding hit South Devon, with water pouring down the steep cliffside in the woods above Salcombe's Cliff Road.

Then at about 5pm a body was found in the woodlands not far from the Salcombe Harbour Hotel.

The woods below Devon Road and above Bennett Road are popular with dog walkers. They are now cordoned off.
