A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Deniro Monts in District Heights in May 2020, Prince George’s County police said.

       The man, Javon Hines, also faces a charge of attempted murder. Two other people also were shot and wounded in the same incident, police said. Hines, who was also shot and wounded that day, is being held at the county jail without bond.

       On May 17, 2020, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 6800 block of Atwood Street in District Heights and found Monts on a sidewalk with bullet wounds.

       Monts, a District Heights resident, died at a hospital.

       Detectives believe that Hines, who had no fixed address, knew Monts and that the shooting “stemmed from an ongoing dispute,” police said.
