GEORGE TOWN: A disabled person was killed after his eighth floor apartment unit at Desa Bayan in Bayan Baru caught fire.

       Firemen who received the distress call at 8.59am Sunday (May 8) rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire before discovering the 18-year-old victim's scorched body sprawled in a bedroom.

       The building was found to be 80% burnt.

       "There was a disabled victim found unconscious in a bedroom.

       "The victim was found lying down and his back burnt," said a statement by the Fire and Rescue Department.

       The body has been sent to Penang Hospital for a post-mortem.
