The victim was being flown to a hospital for treatment, according to the police.

Few details were released by police, but in comments on the police Facebook page, many people described scenes of people fleeing in fright from the carnival after the shooting.

By 3 a.m. Saturday, 147 comments had been posted; several gave accounts similar to this: “I was passing by. There was so many kids running across the road panicking...”

Another comment described having just left with children “when we heard the gun shots.” The account told of “people running crying and screaming” and of never having “felt so worried and scared.”

Still another comment told of answering a daughter’s call “to come to save her.” The comment continued “I won’t relax until I see my baby.”

One of the comments was from someone who said a daughter and a niece had been on a ride when the shooting occurred.

The ride was stopped, and the niece “jumped off, but ended up twisting her ankle,” the comment added.

A further comment came from someone who reported being “so scared” and jumping a fence, “carrying my 3-year-old boy.”
