IPOH: Several witnesses including neighbours and teachers will be called to assist in the murder of an eight-year-old girl allegedly due to abuse by her uncle and aunt.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid (pic) said there might be a possibility that the neighbours could have heard something from the house.

“The victim’s father is currently being locked up due to drug abuse and together with her six-year-old brother, they were placed under the care of the suspects from early 2022.

“Her brother, who is also suspected to have been abused, is receiving treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital and the condition has stabilised,” he told reporters at the Perak Royal Golf Club here Tuesday (May 17).

On Monday (May 16), police were granted seven days to remand against the two suspects, aged 40, from May 16 to May 22.

In a statement issued on Sunday (May 15), Comm Mior said the girl was brought to the hospital by an ambulance and was pronounced dead at about 1.45am. Based on the checks on her body, there were injuries believed to be from abuse.

The victim’s brother was rescued from the couple’s house at Desa Pengkalan Bandaraya on the same day.

Meanwhile, Comm Mior added that the suspects have four other children staying in the same house.

“Before staying with the suspects, both of the victims were staying with their aunt in Klang. They were sent to Ipoh after the aunt had a stroke, and no one knows their mother's whereabouts.

“The female suspect is their father’s sister. Both of the suspects worked as food traders selling noodles in front of their house,” he said, adding that the suspects’ children were also sent to hospital for a check-up.

Separately Comm Mior said the Search-And-Rescue (SAR) mission to find the two victims buried under the quarry rockfall at Keramat Pulai is still ongoing.

“The SAR is still in progress and we plan to send the related documents to the coroner team to see if we could declare the status of the victim.

“Once we can issue death certificates, that will help the family for insurance claims and other matters,” he said.

On March 8, two men are feared buried after a rockfall incident at the quarry in Keramat Pulai around 9.40am. Another two victims escaped unharmed.
