MELAKA: A 62-year-old man and his son were detained for allegedly shooting and killing a neighbour's cat with an air rifle at their Bukit Rambai home.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the older suspect was detained at his home on Tuesday (June 21) while his 27-year-old son was nabbed on Monday (June 20).
"Based on our preliminary investigation, the father and son said that they were annoyed as the cat frequently entered their home and decided to shoot it," he said on Tuesday (June 21).
ACP Christopher said the 44-year-old neighbour brought his cat to an animal clinic on Monday, adding that the veterinarian confirmed that the cause of death were pellets embedded in the carcass.
He said the neighbour decided to lodge a police report against the neighbour for animal cruelty.
ACP Christopher added that police personnel raided the suspect's house on Tuesday (June 21) and confiscated the air rifle and 17 pellets as well as spare parts for an air gun.
He said the two have been remanded for four days to assist in the investigation under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 30 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
