KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 315 flood victims have been placed at two temporary relief centres (PPS) located at Dewan Kelab Sultan Sulaiman and SJKT Saraswathy here.

       Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said the victims are from 93 families.

       "At Dewan Kelab Sultan Sulaiman, 109 victims from 46 families from Kampung Periuk and Jalan Raja Bot have been placed there.

       "A total of 206 victims from Kampung Pasir, Pantai Dalam, are in PPS SJKT Saraswathy," the centre said in a statement on Tuesday (March 8).

       A heavy downpour that started at about 4pm on Monday (March 7) caused water levels to rise as high as one metre.

       The city's drainage system was unable to deal with the extraordinary rainfall within the two-hour period, the centre said.

       "In a year, rainfall is 2,500mm, an average of about 208mm a month.

       "However, in two hours (on Monday), rainfall was 106mm, more than half of the monthly average.

       "It is based on a report by the Meteorological Department," it said.
