MELAKA: A five-year-old girl, believed to be a victim of child abuse, was rescued from her home at Bandar Hilir, here.

       The girl was allegedly abused and beaten by her 30-year-old mother and her boyfriend, 38.

       Melaka CID chief Asst Comm Mohd Sukri Kaman said the police raided the house around 10.45pm on Saturday (Aug 14) following a tip-off.

       "We were informed of the abuse at 9.25pm before a team of policemen rushed to the house and rescued the victim.

       "Preliminary investigation showed that the victim had injuries after allegedly being assaulted with a belt," he said on Sunday (Aug 15).

       ACP Mohd Sukri said the child was sent to Melaka Hospital for a medical check-up and treatment.

       "The victim also has an 18-month-old sister staying at the same house," he said.

       ACP Mohd Sukri said the male suspect was detained on Sunday (Aug 15) at Bandar Hilir police station while the victim's mother was arrested at her home, a few hours later.

       He added that the couple has been remanded until Aug 21 to assist in the investigation.
