A 16ft dinosaur skeleton, fondly known as Barry, is expected to fetch at least £1million at a Paris auction.

The mostly unimpaired bones of the Camptosaurus were first found in the 1990s in Wyoming and were restored by a palaeontologist named Barry Jones.

Scientists are in awe of Barry, which they say is one of the most complete ever found.

The skull is 90 percent complete while the rest of it is 80 percent finished, Alexandre Giquello, an expert at the Hotel Drouot auction house said.

“It is an extremely well-preserved specimen, which is quite rare," he said.

The dinosaur was purchased last year by an Italian laboratory, Zoic, which carried out restoration.

Barry the skeleton is tipped to go on display in Paris before it is sold in mid-October.

The Camptosaurus is known to date back to the late Jurassic period, roughly 150 million years ago.

Barry is one of more than a dozen skeletons that have been sold in recent years with an average of two going on auction annually.

A T-Rex skeleton named Trinity, which is made up of the bones of three different T-rexes, sold for 6.1million USD in a Swiss auction.

The bones that make up Trinity were also found in Wyoming, as well as Montana, and are predicted to be between 65 million to 67 million years old.

A private modern art and dinosaur relic collector from Europe bought the bones at the Koller auction house in Zurich.

Another T rex skeleton was expected to bring its owner up to 25million USD at Christie's, Hong Kong but the sale was withdrawn because of doubts around the origins of the skeleton.
