BATU PAHAT: A 46-year-old pedestrian has died after a policeman on a motorcycle ran into her while she was crossing a road near here on Monday (Sept 13).
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said the victim, Ang Hui Yin, was crossing the road along KM6 Jalan Kluang-Batu Pahat when the incident occurred at around 7.45am.
"A 53-year-old policeman was on his way to work in Batu Pahat from Parit Raja when he ran into the victim.
"The crash left her severely injured and she died at the scene.
"The policeman, from Batu Pahat police headquarters, was also badly injured," he said, adding that the policeman was sent to Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail here for medical treatment.
ACP Ismail said it was drizzling at the time of the accident.
He added that aside from obeying road regulations, road users should also be alert for pedestrians and advised the public to be careful when crossing the road.
The case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he said.
