       Visitation will be held Friday and Saturday for a veteran Dolton firefighter who died earlier this month while vacationing in the Dominican Republic.

       Robert Morgan will be waked from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Leak & Sons Funeral Home, 18400 S. Pulaski Road, Country Club Hills, according to Morgan’s cousin, Kevin Yates.

       Following visitation Saturday, funeral services will be held at St. Mark’s Missionary Baptist Church, 14618 Lincoln Ave., Harvey.

       Morgan, 50, was days from marking his 21st year with the Dolton Fire Department when he was found July 7 unresponsive in his room at a resort in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic’s capital, according to his cousin and mother.

       The U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic released Morgan’s body to his family last Friday following what a Dolton village spokesman said was an “intense investigation” and involved the embassy having an autopsy performed.

       Yates said Tuesday the family is awaiting the autopsy results and hopes to hear something soon.

       A procession Saturday night brought Morgan’s body from O’Hare International Airport to Leak & Sons.

       Morgan worked full time as an engineer and would have marked his 21st year with the department July 17. He was due to have returned home from the Dominican Republic July 6 and been back to work the next morning, according to his mother, Sandra Morgan.

       Morgan said she spoke with her son a few days before he was leaving and that he said he would call her July 6 during a layover in Miami.

       The morning of July 7, she said, her caller ID showed calls coming from a U.S. Embassy office and she ignored them, thinking it was a scam. She later found out from the resort about her son and informed Dolton’s fire chief.

       She and Yates said Morgan was a frequent traveler and adventurer, taking part in activities such as bungee jumping, snow skiing and sky diving, and Morgan’s mother said her son was a frequent visitor to the Dominican Republic.

       Morgan lived in Calumet City and has an adult daughter, according to his family.
