NEW YORK, April 11 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar appreciated in late trading on Monday amid a momentum in bond yields.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, rose 0.14 percent at 99.9330.

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.0893 U.S. dollars from 1.0886 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3034 dollars from 1.3038 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar was down to 0.7431 U.S. dollar from 0.7462 dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 125.45 Japanese yen, higher than 124.36 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.9311 Swiss franc from 0.9335 Swiss franc, and it increased to 1.2621 Canadian dollars from 1.2567 Canadian dollars.

The above market moves came as U.S. treasury yields climbed. The yield on the benchmark U.S. 10-year treasury topping 2.79 percent on Monday, reaching its highest level in three years. The yield on the 30-year treasury note also advanced. A rising yield is dollar bullish, while a falling yield is dollar bearish.
