MELAKA: The iconic Jonker Walk night market is back in operation after almost a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Jonker Walk management committee deputy chairman Datuk Gan Tian Loo said over 60% of the traders reopened their stalls yesterday and the number was expected to increase over the weekend.
He said Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) gave the green light for Jonker Walk to be reopened after the state moved into Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan earlier this month.
“Only traders and hawkers who had received their second dose of the vaccine can resume business.”
MBMB mayor Datuk Zainal Abu said visitors to Jonker Walk must adhere to the standard operating procedure.
“We have proposed a single entry point into Jonker Walk to ensure only the fully vaccinated have access,” he said.
