SEREMBAN: An inquest will be carried out to establish the death of a 15-month-old toddler who was found dead at a childcare centre here on Feb 22.
Seremban district police chief Asst Comm Nanda Maarof said the inquest will start on May 30.
"We were told about this by the state legal and prosecuting unit. We do not have any other information, like the number of days it will be held, or the number of witnesses to be called as yet," he said when met at the Seremban 2 court complex here Wednesday (April 13).
A babysitter, who had fed the toddler Nour Rania Asyifaa Yuseri milk and put her to bed in a room, found her head dangling from the cloth cradle when she went to check on her an hour later.
She then tried to resuscitate the victim but to no avail.
The toddler was rushed to the Sendayan health clinic and four doctors tried but failed to revive her.
There were 15 children, including the deceased, all aged between six months and seven years old, at the centre when the incident happened.
There were also two babysitters, aged 27 and 39 at the centre, which has been operating from a single-storey corner unit since the end of 2019.
The centre, however, was not equipped with any CCTV system.
A post-mortem on Nour Rania’s remains revealed that her death was due to compression of the neck.
However, Nour Rania's father, Yuseri Yusoff, later said he was not happy with the findings and asked police to probe the incident under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
