Valdai Club to Discuss Geopolitical Reset
2021-06-29 00:00:00.0     Events(事件)-Announcements(公告)     原网页

On November 20, at 9:00 Moscow time (GMT+3), the Valdai Discussion Club and the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) will hold a joint session, titled “Geopolitical Reset: Is a World With More Cooperation and Less Rivalry Possible?”

The event will take place as part of the Global Town Hall international online conference. The Valdai Club will take part in it as an institutional partner, along with such think tanks as the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), Institute for Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), Chatham House and many others.

The coronavirus pandemic has become a real test for the modern world order. Many have wondered whether the international community is capable of effectively solving global health issues, confronting economic crises, and easing growing geopolitical tensions. While the United States is refusing to participate in a number of multilateral cooperation projects, China is increasing its influence, and the middle powers are gaining more weight in international relations. It is clear that a new global order is emerging, in which international cooperation is of paramount importance.

How can states help strengthen cooperation and weaken confrontation in the international arena? What role can the new American administration play in this process? What is the potential of regional organisations? The participants will answer these and many other questions.

       Speakers:

Kevin Rudd, President of the Asia Society Policy Institute, Prime Minister of Australia (2007–2010, 2013)

Marty Natalegawa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia (2009–2014)

Kishore Mahbubani, Honorary Research Fellow, Institute for Asian Studies, National University of Singapore

       Moderators:

Anton Bespalov, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Valdai Club website (valdaiclub.com)

Sunjoy Joshi, Chairman, Observer Research Foundation, India

       Working language: English.
