A man facing a first-degree murder charge in connection with the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old woman in Bronzeville earlier this month was expected in court Thursday, according to Chicago police.

Elijah Clippard, 31, was arrested about 8:50 a.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of East 130th Street, police said. Police identified him as the person who allegedly fatally shot Crystal Crockett, of Bronzeville, on June 15.

The shooting happened about 6:15 a.m. in the 4500 block of South Wabash Avenue, police said. Officers found Crockett in an alley with a gunshot wound to the head. A witness told police they came outside after hearing a gunshot and saw Crockett.

Crockett was pronounced dead at 6:42 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Her cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and it was ruled a homicide.

Clippard was expected to appear for a bond court hearing later Thursday.
