A man is suspected of killing his mother in Chicago’s Near North Side then fleeing to Grundy County with the body, authorities said.
Marc Holliman, 53, was arrested Monday night in Morris, Illinois, after his 81-year-old mother’s body was found in his car in Dwight, officials said.
Holliman was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of concealing a homicidal death, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Dwight police responded to a report of vehicle theft around 10:45 a.m. Monday. They talked to Holliman, who then left in his car, the Dwight Police Department said in a news release. About an hour later, Holliman, suffering from self-inflicted injuries, approached Dwight officers again, the department said. That’s when police found the woman’s body in the car.
Holliman was treated at an area hospital and released.
The woman was identified as Juanita Holliman. Her death was ruled a homicide, according to a news release from the Grundy County coroner’s office.
According to Jason Helland, the Grundy County state’s attorney, Dwight police said Juanita Holliman was Marc Holliman’s mother.
Officials said the homicide happened in the 100 block of West Delaware Place.
