2 dead, 3 seriously injured in Wednesday night shootings in Chicago

       At least two people were killed and three others were seriously injured in several shootings Wednesday night in Chicago, officials said.

       A 59-year-old man was shot in the chest in the 1300 block of South Lawndale Avenue around 8:45 p.m., police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, police and fire officials said.

       Tyrone Tousant, of the same block on South Lawndale Avenue on which he was killed, was identified as the man who was fatally shot, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

       In the same attack, a 46-year-old woman was struck in the foot and was taken to Stroger Hospital, according to a police media notification. The woman was in critical condition, said Walter Schroeder, a district chief with the Fire Department.

       In a separate attack, three people were shot in the 3500 block of West Lake Street in Garfield Park around 8:15 p.m., according to a police media notification.

       A woman, 27, was struck in the back and was taken to Mount Sinai in serious condition, police and fire officials said. A man, 35, was struck multiple times and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.

       A woman, 24, was grazed on the thigh, police said. Officials did not know whether the woman taken to a hospital for treatment.

       Earlier Wednesday, a 26-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and knee in the 4800 block of West Van Buren Street around 5:35 p.m., according to a police media notification. He was taken in a private vehicle to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:47 p.m., officials said.

       Charles Space, of the 4700 block of North Monticello Avenue, has been identified as the man who was fatally shot in West Garfield Park, according to the medical examiner’s office.

       No arrests have been made in any of the cases.

       Police reported at least five other shootings Wednesday evening, in which victims were in good condition or had their conditions stabilized.
