5 dead, at least 18 others wounded in city shootings since Friday afternoon, police say

       Five people were killed and at least 18 others were wounded in city shootings since 3 p.m. Friday, Chicago police said.

       The latest fatal attack happened about 3:10 p.m. Saturday in the 6100 block of South Ashland Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood. Two men, ages 20 and 33, were at a Clark gas station parking lot when a dark-colored vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots at them, striking the older man in the chest and the younger man in an “unknown” part of the body, police said.

       The older man was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center at 3:38 p.m., while the younger man — who, according to data from the Cook County medical examiner’s office was 19, not 20 — was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:24 p.m. The men had not been identified as of Sunday.

       Friday night, another fatal shooting occurred in the Gresham neighborhood. At 7:21 p.m., a male whose age was unknown was found on a sidewalk in the 600 block of West 80th Street with gunshot wounds to the head and neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:35 p.m., according to preliminary data from the medical examiner’s office. He had not been identified as of Sunday morning.

       Shortly before 6:30 p.m. Friday in the 11000 block of South Vernon Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood, police said a 39-year-old man was on the sidewalk when a light-colored vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, striking the victim in the chest.

       The man was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:56 p.m., according to preliminary data from the medical examiner’s office. He had not been identified as of Sunday morning.

       About one hour earlier, two men, 47 and 34, were both shot at a residence in the West Pullman neighborhood in the 11800 block of South State Street.

       Police said about 5:20 p.m., the men were inside a residence when they were both shot by an unknown person.

       The older victim suffered wounds to the head and buttocks. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man was shot in the left hand and right shoulder, and was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

       Just after 2 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot in the 7300 block of South Dorchester in the Grand Crossing neighborhood while sitting inside a vehicle, police said.

       He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:23 p.m. The medical examiner’s office identified the man as Kenneth Patton, 29, of the same block where he was killed.

       In other shootings from 3 p.m. Friday into Saturday afternoon:

       A 21-year-old man was shot in the head in the 1300 block of West 89th Street in the Gresham neighborhood at 3:53 p.m. Saturday. He was getting out of a vehicle when a man in a dark-colored vehicle pulled up, exited and shot him, police said. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition. About 2 p.m., a 40-year-old man was arguing with someone in an alley in the 6700 block of South Langley Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood when the other person fired gunshots, hitting the 40-year-old’s back and right flank, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. About 1:30 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot while on the street in the 200 block of East 130th Street in the West Pullman neighborhood. He was wounded in both legs and showed up at Roseland Community Hospital in good condition, police said. Around 12:50 p.m., a 37-year-old man was in a vehicle at the intersection of West Harrison Street and South Cicero Avenue in the West Garfield Park neighborhood when a dark-colored vehicle pulled up next to him. Someone in that vehicle opened fire, striking the man in both of his shoulders. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said. Shortly before 12:40 p.m., a 31-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the 9700 block of South Merrion Avenue in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood. He was on the sidewalk when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots, hitting the 31-year-old’s right flank and right leg, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:58 p.m. The man was identified as John Carter, of the 9700 block of South Merrion Avenue, according to the medical examiner’s office. Just after 11:40 a.m., a 36-year-old man was shot in the 3300 block of West Chicago Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. He was on the sidewalk when a gunman approached him and fired shots, hitting his left leg, police said. The 36-year-old was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. Just before 11:30 a.m., a 35-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle in the first block of South Homan Avenue in the Fifth City neighborhood when he was shot in the right thigh, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition. About 10:50 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the right calf and buttocks in the 7800 block of South Marshfield Avenue in the Gresham neighborhood, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition. Shortly before 3:30 a.m., a 36-year-old woman was shot multiple times while inside her vehicle in the 5500 block of South Princeton Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood. She suffered several wounds to the arm and was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said. Shortly before 3 a.m., a 31-year-old man was shot in the 3100 block of West Roosevelt Road in the Lawndale neighborhood. Police said the man was driving when another vehicle pulled alongside and an occupant opened fire, striking him in the hand. He drove himself to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. Shortly after 2:45 a.m., a 30-year-old man was shot in the 4500 block of West Maypole Avenue in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. Police said the man was standing outside when someone in a passing vehicle fired shots, hitting him in the abdomen and leg. He was dropped off at Rush University Medical Center and later transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he was in critical condition. About 1 a.m., two men, 32 and 48, were both shot in the 4100 block of West Adams Street in West Garfield Park. The men were among a large group outside when they were shot. The younger man suffered two wounds to the chest and got himself to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition. The other man was shot in the back, chest and arm, and got himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, police said. Shortly before 1 a.m., a 33-year-old man was shot in his leg and got himself to Mount Sinai Hospital but would not provide any details to police about the shooting. Shortly after 10:10 p.m. Friday, a 59-year-old man was shot by two people in the 1300 block of South Blue Island Avenue in the University Village/Little Italy neighborhood. He suffered a wound to the body and was taken in fair condition to Stroger Hospital. About 8:15 p.m., a 28-year-old man was shot while he was driving in the 8000 block of South Marshfield Avenue in the Gresham neighborhood. He suffered a wound to the left shoulder and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized. About 5:30 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in the West Englewood neighborhood while he was parked in the 5600 block of South Wolcott Avenue. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized. About 3:40 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot in the 4400 block of West Princeton Avenue in the Fuller Park neighborhood. Police said the man was on the sidewalk when someone exited a vehicle and shot him in the back. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, but his condition was unknown.

       No one was in custody for any of the shootings, and detectives were investigating.
