An 18-year-old man was denied bail in bond court Thursday on a charge of attempted first-degree murder in connection with a Gage Park shooting in early March.
Christopher Solis-Govea, of Evergreen Park, was arrested Tuesday in the 2600 block of West 90th Place, the same block where he lives, according to police. Although Chicago police identified the man as Solis-Govea, he was referred to as Christopher Solis in court.
Police said he was identified as the person who shot and injured a 25-year-old man March 3 in the 2700 block of West 51st Street.
Solis and his girlfriend were walking down the street when the 25-year-old victim began speaking to them from his car, according to police. When the victim and the driver stopped to get gas, the victim stayed in the car, and Solis allegedly shot the victim once in the face. The shooter fled the scene, while the victim was transported to Holy Cross Hospital.
The victim’s jaw was fractured, and the bullet remains in his cheek. His surgery is scheduled for October.
Cameras captured the shooting and clear images of Solis’ face, the state’s attorney said. Both witnesses, including Solis’ girlfriend, identified him from surveillance photos.
Solis’ defense attorney said he lives in Chicago with his now fiancé, who is pregnant and due within a month. The attorney also said Solis previously attended Chicago Military Academy through ninth grade. She said he is being declared disabled, with visual impairments, and has diabetes, as well as PTSD. The defense asked for a low monetary bond.
However, Solis was denied bail with the judge referring to the proof presented — video surveillance, and witness identification.
Solis currently has two pending warrants that will be reviewed Friday in bond court.
