A toddler is dead after another child found a gun and it was accidentally discharged in a home in Englewood, authorities said.
Chicago police responded to the 6400 block of South Carpenter Street around 6 p.m. to reports of the shooting. The 4-year-old girl was inside the home when another child found the weapon and it accidentally discharged, striking the toddler in the chest, police said.
The toddler was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A man who was at the scene was taken in for questioning, police said. Police were continuing to investigate.
