A child died Tuesday afternoon after being left in a car in the Springfield area, Fairfax County police said.

       Police said the child was found unresponsive in the car in the 6700 block of Grey Fox Drive. First responders transported the child to a nearby hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.

       The initial 911 call came at 3:22 p.m. Tuesday, according to Fairfax County Police Lt. James Curry. Curry could not immediately provide additional details, including the child’s age or gender or how long the child had been in the car. Police also did not release a cause of death.

       Curry said detectives were at the scene Tuesday evening gathering additional information.
