TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Yasuhiro Yamashita was re-elected as the president of the Japanese Olympic Committee on Friday, the 64-year-old retaining his post for two more years for his second term.
"We as the JOC will cooperate with the games organizers until the end and handle matters accordingly," Yamashita said of the Tokyo Olympics still shrouded in uncertainty amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I hope the athletes fulfill their potential holding the pride and responsibility of representing Japan in their hearts. We'll do all we can to support them," added the judo open-category gold medalist at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
The number of female board members has increased to 13 from the previous five, clearing the 40-percent target set in the government's governance code for sporting bodies.
