TOKYO -- The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) warned of the possibility of heavy rain mainly on the Pacific side of east and west Japan on July 2, and called for people to be on their guard against landslides, flooding in low-lying areas as well as high river levels that could also lead to flooding.
The agency said a seasonal rain front extending over the Pacific side of Japan was expected to move north through July 3, with warm, moist air flowing into the front resulting in unstable weather. The agency also called for caution against lightning, tornadoes and strong gusts.
Over the 24-hour period up until 6 a.m. on July 3, the Tokai region in central Japan was expected to be hit with up to 250 millimeters of rain, while the maximum expected rainfall stood at 200 millimeters in the Kanto-Koshin region in central to east Japan, 180 millimeters in the Kinki region in western Japan, and 120 millimeters in the southern Kyushu region and Amami Islands in southwest Japan.
