YOKOHAMA -- The Yokohama Municipal Government mistakenly sent news organizations the personal information of 165 people who had tested positive for the coronavirus, it announced on July 11.

The municipal government sends the media information every evening on those who are newly infected, including their sex, age bracket and seriousness of symptoms. According to the city, it sent a document containing personal information of the 165 people on July 11 by mistake, such as their names, wards where their residences are registered and details about infection routes, to 28 news organizations. The city began to retrieve the information on the same day.

The city usually has two people check press releases on COVID-19 infections before sending them out, but it apparently neglected to do so on the day. The municipal government issued a statement, saying, "We will thoroughly double-check when sending faxes in the future to make sure we are putting out the correct one."
