Renee Glover was born on June 21, 1914, and has lived through two world wars, 21 prime ministers and the Covid pandemic. When asked what the secret is to her long life, she believes the credit goes to drinking 13 cups of tea every day.

       Renee’s granddaughter, Sarah Renwick, 51, told ChronicleLive: “Nana has 13 cups of tea a day and says that's the secret to her long life. We think it's genetics, but she says it's cups of tea.

       "She's got a great sense of humour. She's cheeky, feisty - in a funny way - and she's always joking. She's got these little catchphrases that she's known for. You walk in a room and she'll greet you with 'What do you know?'

       “And she loves singing too. She can still hold a note and you'll often hear her singing 'I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts' - she's a right character."

       Renee celebrates her birthday today at Wilton House care home, in Darlington, where she has lived for five years. She is known as ‘The Queen’ to staff and residents and they will celebrate Renee’s big day with balloons, cake, and of course, tea.

       Renee grew up in Frosterley, County Durham, with her older sister Nancy and parents Frank and Ethel Carruthers.

       Ethel worked as a nurse and Frank was a policeman. Renee’s father later went on to be Head Gamekeeper for Sir William Eden of Windlestone Hall, who was the father of British Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden.

       During the Second World War, Renee was in charge of ammunitions at the Royal Ordinance Factory in Newton Aycliffe, where the workers were known as the 'Aycliffe Angels'.

       Aged 19, Renee married Edwin Glover in Coundon Church and they went on to have one daughter, Judith, now aged 84.

       The couple enjoyed a happy marriage until Edwin died in his late 50s and Renee moved in with her daughter.

       Now Renee is a grandmother-of-two, great-grandmother-of-five and a great-great-grandmother-of-nine.
