Abderrahmane Fadil, 60, was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) “gasping for breath” and needing life-saving treatment when he tested positive for Covid after refusing the vaccine. Mr Fadil who lives in Bradford with his wife and two young sons, Rayan, nine, and Aryan, seven, said his little boys cried everyday while he was unwell and, despite trying to reassure them, he wasn’t sure himself whether he would survive.

Mr Fadil was offered the jab in February when people aged 60 and over were called. However, he said he was hesitant to get the jab because he was “so well” at the time and “never really believed he would get Covid.”

After spending nine days on a Covid ward, Mr Fadil is urging others to get the jab.

He said: “Refusing the jab was the biggest mistake of my life. I would go to hell and back now to get the vaccine. Covid is not something to be played with. It’s not a joke. The vaccine is a life-saver for mankind. It’s vital to survive so please do not hesitate to get it as I did.”

Thankfully, he has now recovered and has been reunited with his family.

Respiratory Consultant, Tanveer Khalid, part of the team responsible for Mr Fadil’s care, said: “Mr Fadil has been very lucky. He was extremely poorly when he was admitted and needed life-saving CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) therapy.

“The majority of very sick Covid patients we have on our wards are here because they have refused the vaccine.

“This proves the vaccines are working. I am appealing to everyone; anyone over 18 can now get the jab. Please go and get it. It could save your life.”

Coronavirus cases have spiked in recent weeks after the Delta variant arrived in the UK.

Experts have outlined the most common signs of coronavirus infection for those worried about the virus.

Professor Tim Spector said those unvaccinated are likely to suffer from a headache, sore throat, runny nose and fever.

However, those who have had a vaccine are less likely to have a fever but more likely to sneeze.
