George Galloway has savaged Scottish fans for not getting behind the England football team prior to Sunday's Euro 2020 final at Wembley. The Three Lions failed to beat Italy in a nail-biting clash which was ultimately decided by a penalty shoot-out. Gareth Southgate's team has been praised despite the defeat for uniting the country with their performances throughout the tournament. However, Galloway singled out the "auto-enmity" approach to the game by some Scottish fans.

       Mr Galloway said: "I wanted to say that the auto-enmity of other people toward the England football team is as ugly a thing as I have ever seen.

       "There is banter and there is ugliness.

       "And the ugliness of the 'Anyone but England' brigade which includes some people close to me not ten yards from me just at this minute is an ugly and juvenile thing.

       "We live here, why would we not want a team from here to prosper in the European football championship?

       "Why would we not want players that we cheer on and marvel at to do well?

       "Because they are wearing their national shirts what would that make us if so?

       He continued: "All these Scottish people evincing hate would be better getting angry at the Scottish football authorities who have so miserably presided over Scotland's footballing fate.

       "I went to the World Cup in Frankfurt in Germany in 1974 when Scotland has one of the best football teams in the world."

       "What happened? How did we go from that to this?

       "I played football from the age of five years old in Scotland we were taught football by the primary school teachers," added the former Labour MP.

       "Now all these decades later we are still taught football by the school teachers why aren't our children receiving the kind of coaching, on the kind of pitches, in the kind of halls that the children of Denmark to name just one are.

       "Or the Netherlands are, other small countries with small populations have prospered mightily at the football."

       "But Scotland, which along with England was the home of football, is in such a parlous parlous state," concluded Galloway.

       "So get angry at those running your own parish!

       "Rather than evincing your small country syndrome against your neighbors.

       "Good neighborliness is after all a holy thing, it is not just holy it is actually commonsense."
