       OSAKA -- The Osaka Prefectural Government reported 3,004 coronavirus infections on Sept. 1 -- the first time for the western Japan prefecture to see over 3,000 cases a day.

       The previous record for the prefecture was 2,829 set on Aug. 26. The Sept. 1 figure was an increase of 197 compared to the previous Wednesday on Aug. 25.
