Many have noted the irony the Prime Minister may now have to self-isolate on the eve of Freedom Day on 19 July, when lockdown restrictions in England will be lifted. Today Mr Javid released a statement on Twitter to explain he was awaiting the result of a full PCR test and had only mild symptoms of coronavirus. He tweeted: “This morning I tested positive for Covid.
"I’m waiting for my PCR result, but thankfully I have had my jabs and symptoms are mild.
“Please make sure you come forward for your vaccine if you haven’t already.”
In a video statement posted on Twitter Mr Javid stated he had taken a coronavirus lateral flow test after feeling “a bit groggy” on Friday evening.
This led chief political correspondent of Sky News Jon Craig to state: "Is the Prime Minister going to have to isolate?

"We could be looking at a Covid scare at the very top of Government."
Mr Javid will quarantine at home with his family for ten days, as per the current Government stipulations.
He also announced that he is awaiting the result of the more accurate PCR test on his current conditions.
The Bromsgrove MP was appointed last month following the resignation of former Health Secretary Matt Hancock after CCTV footage emerged showing him kissing an aide and thus breaching social-distancing rules.

M Javid has been more vocal about getting the UK open for business again and has been pushing for the easing of restrictions.
Both the Government and most citizens of the UK are desperate for a return to normality after over one year of periodic lockdowns.
However, speaking to The Sun, Solicitor General of the UK Lucy Frazer said the Government would reimpose lockdown measures should coronavirus hospitalisations and deaths spiral out of control.
She said that the Government was "of course" ready to reinstate lockdown measures if a coronavirus third wave becomes "unacceptable".
Ms Frazer insisted "now is the time" to ditch the legal restrictions of the past 17 months, saying: "If we don't do it now, when?".
Yesterday more than 50,000 daily cases from coronavirus were recorded in the UK, this was the highest daily rate since January.
In detail, the figure recorded yesterday stood at 51,870 cases, the highest figure since 15 January.
Also, 49 deaths from coronavirus were recorded, these were fatalities listed from people who had tested positive with coronavirus within the last 28 days.
